Green Domestic Flights from Sønderborg with eSAF, GreenAviation

Challenge
At Kassø PtX, European Energy is pioneering the large-scale conversion of green electricity into e-methanol. This marks the first such initiative in the world. With Kassø PtX, electricity from solar and wind can contribute to the green transition in sectors that cannot be directly electrified.

Overall, this supports a transition in Southern Jutland from an industry based on fossil fuels to green fuels.

Solution
The objective of the proposed project is to explore the feasibility of supplying green aviation fuel to Sønderborg Airport based on e-methanol from Kassø PtX. The project brings together stakeholders from the entire value chain to assess the technical and commercial aspects of producing green aviation fuel using methanol-to-jet technology.

The project is expected to result in a decision-making basis for establishing real production of green aviation fuel to facilitate the first green domestic flights from Sønderborg Airport.

Impact
The project aims to provide a qualified decision-making basis for Sønderborg Airport and European Energy to initiate a concrete demonstration project involving the production and use of green aviation fuel.
